Wow! A kid hit me at school yesterday!

I cannot help but share an experience I had yesterday! I substituted in Christian's class yesterday, which was a neat! He is such a mature boy! Anyway, I went out to recess to help organize some soccer teams eventhough I didn't really have yard duty. I organized the teams and the kids started playing. Before I could walk back to the classroom, two sweet little girls stopped me and said that a boy had been really rude to them and even hit one of them in the arm. Well, I knew these girls (they aren't tattle tales) and figured I better follow-up and talk to the boy. They pointed him out and I called him over to talk to him. I said, "What's your name?" (I didn't know this kid) and he rudely said, "What's your name?" I told him my name and then he mocked me and copied everything I said. My intention was to get this kid to say sorry and feel responsible for hurting these girls. Well, he continued to mock me and so I told him that I would be walking him to the office to see the principal. Well, at that point, after mocking me, he ran! Then began my out of body experience! I was stubborn and was not going to let him get away with this... so I chased him! When I caught up with him (adrenaline is amazing, I was even wearing sandals), I grabbed his left arm and looked down at him to talk to him and I saw his right arm winding up with a fist at the end of it. He swung and hit me in the head, luckily I moved my head to the side a bit or he would have gotten me right in the nose. It all happened very fast but I can see it in slow motion now! I went into shock! I didn't really have bad pain until later that afternoon so I went back to the classroom and finished out my day of teaching. I couldn't really think very well, so I had some of my responsible kids do most of the teaching. When he got home from work, Aaron drove me up to see my brother-in-law, Chiropractor. He said I may have suffered a minor concussion and had knocked out two vertebra in my neck. An experience that I'll never forget. I hope that this boy somehow learns that there is a better way. I will be praying for him!

Christian is mowing our lawn!! YEAH!!

So Christian wanted to mow the lawn the other day and I was hesitant because I had watched on the news that kids shouldn't start mowing the lawn until they are 12 years old. So, instead of saying yes, I said, "if you can start it, you can do it." Well, I thought I was so smart because I even have trouble starting a lawn mower most of the time and didn't think he could do it. Well, he got the mower out of the shed and read the side of it and got that mower started. When I heard that thing start I was right there worried as can be giving him instructions, putting goggles on his face, etc. etc. Then, I realized he was really capable of doing it all by himself. This is a first for him and I guess part of cutting some apron strings. I thought I'd document it!

BACK TO SCHOOL ALREADY!

So it has been a busy couple of days for our family. School started on Thurday, we had a family reunion on Friday and Saturday and the Anniversary Dinner for my parents on Friday night. Everything went really well. Christian seems to really agonize about starting school every year (probably inherited by his mother). He was really happy that his friend, Calvin, is in the same class! Meliah was beaming and so excited to have so many close friends in her class and the same teacher who Christian had in 2nd grade. Lizzy is not happy though! She is really starting to miss her friends. This morning she said, "Okay, let's go get Christian and Meliah from school now!" I just don't entertain her as well as they do. Oh well!

On the Lake!

We had a wonderful time on the boat for family night last night. We were able to go with a family in our ward. We have kids that are close in age so the kids had a blast and so did Aaron and I. We really enjoy their company! Lena and I had a swim race and she blew me away. Swimming is not my best sport... I like sports that I don't feel like I'm going to drown if I get tired. Thankfully, I didn't drown!

These are my two girls with some of their favorite people... their cousins! It is so cute because they always insist that they give hugs before they leave their cousins, sometimes that can take awhile. In this picture they decided to do a group hug before parting! They are all so beautiful is this picture.

More Family!

Here are some of my nieces and nephews! They are all getting so old, it makes me feel really old to know that they are teenagers and some are already getting married off. I am so proud of all of them. They are so talented and wonderful! From left to right: Alexa, Chelsie, Jordan, Ty and Emily.

Cortney and Denton had their California reception this week! They look so happy together. It was wonderful to see almost every one of my brothers and sisters at the reception and almost all of my nieces and nephews! We are so excited about the family reunion in a couple of weeks. We also look forward to celebrating my Mom and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary soon. Here are some pictures from the wedding reception.
